The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source plays a key role in supporting young scientists within the TWINNING programme of the NEPHEWS project.

Anna Drzewicz and Olga Adamczyk from the Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN), participated in a reflectometry experiment at the OFFSPEC instrument under the supervision of Oleksandr Tomchuk, Instrument Scientist in Neutron Reflectometry at ISIS.

The experiment focused on obtaining a detailed structural description of smectic E (SmE)-like liquid crystalline films produced by molecular beam deposition as a basis for field-effect transistors in printed electronics. The structural flexibility of the SmE phase is crucial for developing flexible electronic applications.

We believe that the experience gained will be useful in your further LC research using neutron scattering methods.
