Dr. Carlos Arauz-Moreno is a physicist at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique (LIPhy) in Grenoble, France – a joint research unit between the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Université Grenoble Alpes. His areas of interest intersect fundamental and applied soft matter and bubble physics, polymer physico-chemistry, materials science, and more recently, ultrasound-based techniques relying on 3-D printed caged bubbles for acoustical microscopy.

Under the NEPHEWS Twinning program, Dr. Arauz-Moreno undertook a research visit at the DESY Research Centre where he was hosted by Dr. Felix Lehmkuehler. In here, he was introduced — both theoretically and practically — to X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) applied to real-time gelation processes using the latest generation TEMPUS detector which enables sub-μs resolution of XPCS measurements. Furthermore, through his stay in beamline P10 at DESY, Dr. Arauz-Moreno gained hands-on experience with detector installation and troubleshooting, sample preparation and handling, as well as beam alignment and beamline operation.

As part of his research stay, Dr. Arauz-Moreno interacted with the different beamline scientists and staff at P10, discovered many of the capabilities at DESY, learned about the processes to submit proposals to request beamline time, and identified additional beamlines and techniques suitable for his research. Overall, his stay proved fruitful and paved the way for further collaboration into the future.
